Where google is not the leader
March 4, 2009
Yesterday I had the pleasure to attend the dinosaur of Zurich’s web events – Reto Hartinger’s Internet Briefing. With a total of 650 members his association doesn’t only generate the largest meet-ups, but also is the most historic one when it comes to making the Web understandable to amateurs and semi-pros.

[sorry, but you're not on the list]
The presenting company was worldsites, and next to a good load of Web 1.0 vibes the presentation provided me with some interesting bits and bytes from the search industry. For example the countries in which Google’s search engine isn’t dominating: South Korea where Naver has 77% market share; or China where bogus Baidu claims 60% of the search market; or Russia where Yandex has 48% market share… more countries to follow were the Czech Republic with Seznam, most of South East Asia with Yahoo (as they prefer the portal concept), Estonia with Neti etc.

[Hmmm, that exclamation mark...]
Or did you for example know that Latinos and Asians trust advertising more than Europeans (from which the Italians followed by the Danish trust advertising least)? Or that click fraud with Baidu ads adds up to 34%, with Google to 24%? Or that you only have 5-8 seconds to convince a new visitor of the benefits of your website?

[a bit like a party meeting]
