I must admit, I had somewhat wet palms last night at the Swiss ICT Awards. Being nominated for the most prestigious Awards in the country is one thing, actually sitting there and waiting for your company’s name to be called out is another thing altogether. To make a long story short: We won the 2009 Swiss ICT Award in the category “Public”! Party on!

The event gets started with some chamber music

For all of you who want the inside scoop: In the afternoon, a motley crew (Sushi & Oona and Carola of Wuala, Myke of Doodle, Fabienne of Liip, Rahel of Virtually Handmade, our user David Butler and the Amazee team) set sails for Lucerne, where the Swiss ICT Awards were held. After a good cup of coffee the Awards commenced with a little light music and the tension started to build. First up: The “Newcomer” category, in which we were nominated. This one was taken by Poken, rightfully so. Congrats again to them for an outstanding job (and for the Pokens)!

Next up was the “Champions” category, for the veterans of the trade. This Award went to Abacus, congratulations to them, too! The last category, “Public”, was decided by the, well, public, aka you, the user. You might remember that we have been pesting you with requests to puhleeeeeeze vote for us. And, what can we say: It helped! We won! We got it! We swept the others! We took it home! All the way! We were up against all competitors from the two previous categories and thanks to your efforts, we came out on top.

The group picture after the Awards (no, that’s not the Amazee team!)

No doubt, we entered the stage as a team, complete with David as the user representative. What a triumph! We cannot thank you enough. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! As you can imagine, the rest of the ceremony went by in a haze: Dominik Grolimund of Wuala and André Kudelski of his own Kudelski Group were awarded as entrepreneurs of the year, our heartfelt respects go out to them as well! The rest of the ceremony was well rounded off with an entertaining and funny presentation by Italian astronaut Maurizio Cheli about his space mission aboard the Columbia Space Shuttle in 1996.

You can see all of last night’s glory on flickr. Wuala also has pictures and a nice blog entry.

We are humbled by your support in helping us win this award. As a little “Thank you” we would like to give away five funky Pokens. All you need to do is comment on this article and tell us why you voted for Amazee. The best five answers will receive one of the tiny electronic business cards. Competition runs until Friday at noon, CET.
