The slow way down

In December I already wrote about Florian Rolke and I have to do it again. The story so far: Florian Rolke of Germany’s Hamburg city decided he wanted to combine adventure with charity and set out on an epic journey. He is on his way from Hamburg all the way to South Africa on a Simson Schwalbe, a 30 year old moped built in East Germany. The cause: to collect money to battle AIDS and HIV in a project in Uganda. So far, so crazy.

But Florian proves that it can be done if you put your mind to it. And the gas canister, for that matter. After dashing through Eastern Europe, Turkey and the Middle East he entered Africa and has to this date proceeded into Kenya, where he is resting right now for a couple of days. Speed is not a matter on a journey like this. He is on the road for the sake of the road and to raise awareness for the cause. And the best thing (for those who understand German): Florian writes about his journey and his experiences. And he does so in a very entertaining way, it is worthwhile a read. So, if you read German, check out his site.

His brother Basti also maintains a project on Amazee which contains the basic information. With this he wants to win the Amazee bucket, in which we give away 10′000 USD in prize money. If you’d like to support Florian and Basti, check out that project.
